That's precious!
2 of my kitties figured out how my aquarium lid opens, had to build a 25lb wood lid. They're endlessly frustrated
(PS: Not an entry...just more cuteness)
I got blood a new blood tests done at my regular vet. Then went to the hospital for more tests and a 2nd opinion. Her Phosphates were on the high side of normal, now just normal. But she gone from early stage 2 to stage 3.
Both vets agree phosphate Blockers are at best pointless or dossibles...
Stella & Chewy has a lot of flavors, they're pretty hot or miss with my cats. BUT if OP wants to try freeze dried and doesn't like poultry.
Instinct's freeze dried 'Raw Meals' Pollock might be a good choice.
I haven't tried the Pollock personally Instinct's freeze dried Raw Meals and raw...
It's far from a quality food, but Crave is was the easiest dry food to get new cats to eat. It's a little under $3/lb. once they're eating "something". It's easy to slowly add a incrising ratios of decent quality food over the course of a a couple of months.
Our go-to dry food is Dr Elsy's...
I've been exploring and re-exploring safe ways to get my CKD cat to eat more.
I reached out to the various "lickable treats" mfrs to find actual, current, dry matter phosphate. Aside from Churu different flavors of each brands are within 0.1% of each other.
Dry Matter Phosphate contents...
So I did a little experiment, wanted to see if I could make Fancy Feast pate smooth enough for Luke to eat.
I measured everything precisely, so if it does work I can repeat it.
I used FF Classic Chicken Pate. (It's much smoother & finer than beef or turkey)
I know FF is grittier than other...
Downside to these at home services are, they need 3-5 days notices for an appointment. I think there's still a decent chance we gotta get it done at the vet anyway.
Sorry about Valentino.
I 'own' 5 of my own, fostered 6 others. took care of 2 others for over a year. Luke is unique/ extraordinary Everything about him is in the 1st or 99th percentile. We're braced for him to take a downturn at anytime but wouldn't have been surprised if he died within a...
We were in tears for weeks when we got the news and full of worry when we started the radiation, but the shock has worn down.
We have to give him daily oral prednisolone, which makes him very congested, he drools his little nose whistles for hours after taking pred. And he can only eat soft...
UPDATE: Luke survived all his radiation treatments. Still minimal side effects. Tumor has a delayed response to radiation. Hadnt changed day off treatment 3. Has shrank 3-6% by treatment 4.
Food prep and feeding him is a full time job but we managed to keep him eating without a feeding tube...
He lost wwight and only ate watered down lickable treats the first month his stomps started.
With my perfected mesh method (and feeding every 4 hours); he's averaged 0.11-0.15lb gain each week for 4 weeks
This is one of the main perk of weruva classic pate's. All the poultry flavors, Poultry with salmon, and just salmon can pass completey through the mesh ( beef, lamb, shrimp, and specially tuna leave a some stuff behind).
Merrick's pate's leave some grit behind but the largest bits that don't...
A messed up part about labeling, is that "chicken" could be chicken meat or chicken bone.
I was using 1.5 cubes of crumbled Nulo freeze dried chicken as a topper, it was the lowest phosphate freezedried food I found (0.9%DM ) a bit too high to use more. But I when I went to reorder 3 months...
Using one flour sifter and a flat untencil takes as much time and cleanup as stirring the food up in a seperate bowl. Faster if you're string til it's fairly consistent texture.
Much less time than getting it in then out of a blender. And less cleanup than a blender.
For my guy. The small...
Reading through Tanya's site was the 1st thing I did. It's finding a balance between controlling kidney disease and starvation that's im struggling with.
We get her on Mirtazapine as an appetite stimulant. Her weight loss is progressing slower but she's still losing weight.
11.6lbs jan 2022...
That's how it started with my cat. High end of normal. Thought no more fancy feast or dry food and adding a water fountain would be enoughm Then stage 2kidney disease 6months later with a diet change.
I tried Tiki, Churu, Temptations, and Squeeze-Ups lickable treats
The had Tiki first and loved it, but ater trying all of them my cats won't refuse to eat Tiki.
They'll still eat Churu fish flavors but they don't react nearly as excited like they do to squeeze ups and temptations.
It's kinda...
